TIME TO MOVE?
Buyers: MAKE YOUR MOVE NOW. Have you been on the sidelines waiting for prices to go lower before house shopping and bidding in earnest?
Don’t hold off much longer. The power is still tilted in favor of buyers but as the conditions in the housing market improve, the power will shift to sellers once again. Right now you have plenty of choices in homes to buy. If you are planning on getting a mortgage, plan for lengthy forms and a long period of time to get that loan. The federal government has made it very difficult to get mortgage loans now, so plan ahead. Contact a local lender to find out more about this.
WHERE TO MOVE?
NARFE magazine, a publication for active and retired federal employees, did a study in October for the 12 best places to retire. Kerrville Texas, located about 22 miles from Fredericksburg, was one of the top places listed. Since Kerrville is a sister city in the Hill Country with many of the advantages that Fredericksburg has, I am listing those benefits below:
Move out of tax hell and into tax haven. Texas is one of the few states that doesn’t have a state income tax. Here in Gillespie County, people can have their school taxes frozen at age 65 and there are other exemptions available to those who qualify such as a homeowner’s exemption.
Trundle a cheaper market basket. Living costs vary a lot by geography. Extend your retirement savings by cutting living expenses. Move here from a large city in the North and you can enjoy a low cost of living.
Move and simplify your life at the same time. If you are retiring, now is the time to get rid of excess baggage: say goodbye to all the stuff that you have to dust and maintain. Lighten your life and get ready to enjoy your retirement! Take the next step in life by downsizing your home. It can be painful but in the end you will enjoy not having so much stuff to take care of and a smaller home means less maintenance and tax expense.
